USA Wrestling's Assistant National Women's Coach Clarissa Chun came into her job with the Women's National staff after one of the most successful competitive careers among U.S. women's freestyle wrestlers.
A two-time Olympian, Chun won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games at 48 kg. Another highlight of her career occurred in 2008, at the Women's World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Chun was coming off a fifth-place finish at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, and chose to compete in the Women's World Championships in Tokyo a few months later.
She came out strong, winning her first two matches by pin, over Kaya Demet of Turkey and Pei-Ching Tsai of Chinese Taipei. In the semifinals, she came from behind to defeat past World bronze medalist Makiko Sakamoto of Japan on her home mat, 0-1, 3-0, 1-0.
Her finals opponent was veteran star Jyldyz Eshimova-Turtbayeva of Kazakhstan. Chun was in control in a tight match for a 1-0, 1-0 victory. At the time, she was only the fifth American woman to win a World gold medal.
