World Beach Games Trials for women set for Las Vegas, April 28 and for men in Carolina Beach, May 18

U.S. Senior-level wrestlers have a unique opportunity to qualify to represent the United States at a new multi-sport international event, the ANOC World Beach Games, set for Mission Beach in San Diego, Calif., October 12-13.
Beach Wrestling is one of only 15 sports which will be included in this historic event. The competition is endorsed by the International Olympic Committee, with the Beach Wrestling competition being organized by United World Wrestling. The U.S. team in all of the participating sports will be managed by the U.S. Olympic Committee.

As the host nation, the United States is guaranteed one Beach Wrestling athlete in each of the eight weight classes, four for men and four for women. USA Wrestling is hosting a separate World Beach Games Trials for women and another one for men in order to determine the U.S. team at the ANOC World Beach Games.
The Women’s World Beach Games Trials will be held as part of the U.S. Marine Corps 2019 Open Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, Nev., April 28. It will be held on Sunday morning, right at the South Point Arena, the site of the U.S. Senior Open, which concludes the day before.
Basically, USA Wrestling’s Associated Styles Committee decided to bring the Women’s World Beach Games Trials event to the location where the most Senior-eligible women athletes are expected, which is in Las Vegas during the Open Wrestling Championships week.
The field for the Women’s World Beach Games Trials will be able to include any of the Senior women who are competing at the U.S. Open, any of the Junior women at the Western Regionals who meet Senior eligibility and any other Senior women who decide to enter only the Women’s World Beach Games Trials.
Women athletes competing in Las Vegas should plan their flights back from Las Vegas late in the day on Sunday, April 28 if they want to try out for the World Beach Games. The competition will be held on Sunday morning and is expected to be completed in time for participants to return home later in the day (or on Monday if they so choose).
The women’s weight classes for the World Beach Games are:
50 kg, 60 kg, 70 kg and Over 70 kg
Athletes are able to register online for this event through April 24, or at the onsite/late registration the day before on Saturday, April 27 at 6:00 p.m. Weigh-ins will be Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. (There is no registration at weigh-ins). Competition begins at 9:30 a.m. and will wrestle through conclusion.

Any women who will enter this event must understand that they can receive a discounted registration fee if they book their hotel room through the South Point Hotel first before registering for the event. Senior-eligible women who plan to compete in the U.S. Open and/or Western Junior Regionals and also enter the Women’s World Beach Games Trials can register for those events at the same time.

This is the annual national event in Beach Wrestling, and the results of the men’s Senior division at the U.S. Beach National Championships will determine the U.S. team for the ANOC World Beach Games.

70 kg, 80 kg, 90 kg and Over 90 kg
As with the women, the men must register online or in person by Friday, May 17 in order to compete. Weigh-ins will be held on Saturday morning at 9:00 p.m., with the Men’s Senior Beach competition held that day starting at 11:00 a.m. There will be no Senior men’s registration on Saturday morning.
Registration is not yet available for the 2019 U.S. Beach Nationals in Carolina Beach, but will be publicized when available.
Currently, the U.S. Olympic Committee is reviewing the 2019 ANOC World Beach Games Trials qualification and procedures document. When this is officially approved by the U.S. Olympic Committee, it will be posted on the Team Selection Criteria section on USA Wrestling’s website.
