by Jacob Curby Foundation

Established by USA Wrestling in 2010, the Jacob Curby awards recognize Greco-Roman athletes from each of our two Olympic Training Centers in Marquette, Mich. and Colorado Springs, Colo.

Each year the coaches at these sites name the annual recipients of the Jacob Curby Award in Greco-Roman wrestling. It is presented by USA Wrestling, in memory of Jacob Curby, a former National Team Member who passed in 2010. It is awarded to a wrestler that has displayed the strong personal character and commitment to the sport of Greco-Roman wrestling that Jacob Curby demonstrated.

This is the 10th year of this award program. The 2019 awards are being presented at the Senior Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas tonight.

The recipients are: Max Nowry (Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center) and Sammy Jones, Northern Michigan Olympic Training Site

This year leading into the Olympic year Sammy has shown a deeper level of commitment and discipline which has helped him to earn a spot on the national team. Sammy makes sure to get the most out of the time he has, and trusts himself, his plan, and the path he is following.”
