Snyder wins gold, Green claims silver at Alans International

VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia – Kyle Snyder and James Green picked up medals on Sunday at the Alans International in Vladikavkaz, Russia.
Snyder, a three-time World and Olympic champion, won gold at 97 kg, putting together a solid performance over the weekend and outscoring his opponents 41-8 in his five matches.
Today, competition began with the semifinals, where Snyder defeated Magomedov of Russia, 7-2.
For gold, Snyder defeated 2018 World Military champion and 2019 World Military Games bronze medalist Vladislav Baitsaev of Russia with a decisive 5-2 victory.
Two-time World medalist Green secured a silver-medal finish in his debut at 74 kg.
To begin the day, Green took down 2014 Cadet World silver medalist Sumiyabazar Zandanbud of Mongolia, 3-0, to move onto the finals.
There, Green fell short against 2014 Senior World champion and 2017 World silver medalist Khetik Tsabolov of Russia, 7-4.
Two Americans, Mike Macchiavello and Nick Gwiazdowski, recorded fifth-place finishes at their respective weights.
National Team member Macchiavello, who competed at 92 kg, advanced to today’s semifinals, where he lost to 2019 Ivan Yarygin champion Magomed Kurbanov of Russia, sending him to the third-place bout.
In the bronze match, Macchiavello lost a 9-6 battle to 2007 Junior World silver winner Anzor Urishev of Russia.
Two-time World bronze medalist Gwiazdowski was pulled into repechage at 125 kg, but dropped his bronze match to 2019 U23 World champion and Junior World silver medalist Amir Hossein Zare of Iran, 10-0.
2017 World silver medalist Thomas Gilman and two-time World Team member Zain Retherford were not pulled into repechage.
