Tagg, Carr, Hidlay, Davison, Parris receive draws for day two of freestyle at Junior Worlds

TALLINN, Estonia – The final five U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers have received their draws for the UWW Junior World Wrestling Championships, and will begin competition on Tuesday.


2016 Cadet World bronze medalist David Carr (Canton, Ohio/Titan Mercury WC/Cyclone WC) opens at 74 kg/163 lbs. against Devid Betanov of Russia, who was a 2018 Junior World bronze medalist. Carr is a redshirt freshman at Iowa State.


The other four U.S. athletes starting on Tuesday are in their first age-group World Championships event. Like Carr, all are affiliated with NCAA Div. I wrestling programs.


Elite Accelerator Program (EAP) athlete Gabriel Tagg (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/EAP) will face D. Pryhozhy of Belarus to start off at 61 kg/134 lbs Tagg, the Outstanding Wrestler at the 2019 UWW Junior Nationals, is an incoming freshman at North Carolina.


NC State’s Trent Hidlay (Lewistown, Pa./Wolfpack WC) will compete against Teng Zhou of China in the first round at 86 kg/189 lbs. Zhou was fifth in the 2019 Asian Junior Championships


Northwestern wrestler Lucas Davison (Chesterton, Ind./Wildcat WC/Chicago RTC) has a North American opponent in his first bout at 92 kg/202 lbs., as he battles Julien Choquette of Canada, who was fourth in the 2019 Pan American Junior Championships.


Mason Parris (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Cliff Keen WC), who was an NCAA qualifier for Michigan this season as a true freshman, has Vasil Khvistani of Georgia, in his first match, a 2019 European Junior Championships bronze medalist.


These athletes will do battle on Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Tallinn, which is seven hours ahead of the U.S. Eastern time zone. There will also be a repechage round for the athletes in the first five weight classes. All of the action is broadcast live in the United States on Trackwrestling.
