Johnson picks up lone win for Marines at Tbilisi Grand Prix

TBILISI, Georgia - A team of five Marines travel to and competed at the tough Tbilisi Grand Prix in Tbilisi, Georgia this past week/weekend.
Wrestling at 67 kg, Jamel Johnson picked up the lone win for the U.S. Greco-Roman team at the event. Johnson picked up a 9-0 technical fall win in his first round match against Tornike Kandelaki of Georgia.
After his opening round victory, Johnson dropped two close matches. He fell 7-4 to Amantur Ismailov of Kyrgyzstan 7-4 and then to bronze medalist Nikoloz Sabanshvili of Georgia 2-1 to end his tournament one match shy of a medal match.
Terrence Zaleski also lost a one in his one match at 82 kg. After using a passivity point and a gut wrench to go up 3-0, Zaleski’s Armenian opponent put up five-straight points to win 5-3.
At 87 kg, Vaughn Monreal-Berner hit a nice four-point arm spin for four points in his qualification round match, but was defeated by silver medalist Shalva Khachidze of Georgia 10-4. Monreal-Berner was pulled into repechage, but was defeated by pin to Mamuka Iremadze of Georgia.
At 97 kg, Daniel Miller scored a takedown early with a body lock, but his Kyrgyzstani opponent then scored seven-straight points to make the final score 7-2. Miller was not pulled back in to repechage.
