Miracle and Mensah-Stock add two more Pan Am Games golds for USA

LIMA, Peru – USA women’s freestyle added two more gold-medal performances at the 2019 Pan American Games with Kayla Miracle and Tamyra Mensah-Stock collectively going 6-0 on the day in Lima, Peru.
Just one month before making her Senior World Championships debut, Miracle claimed the Pan Am Games title at 62 kg, making it look easy.
For the gold medal, Miracle took on 2008 and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Jackeline Renteria Castillo of Colombia.
The American locked up a cradle for a takedown and used two tilts to close out the first period with a 7-0 lead. In the second period, Miracle picked up a takedown and later scored on a crotch lift to go up, 11-0. Colombia challenged the call, but it failed, giving Miracle another point for a 12-0 victory.
Her finals match was the first of the day to make it to the second period as she recorded two first-period pins in the morning session.
2018 Senior World bronze medalist Tamyra Mensah-Stock also turned in a tech fall and two pins in her first Pan Am Games appearance, winning gold at 68 kg.
In the finals, Mensah-Stock faced 2017 Pan Am Championships gold medalist Olivia DiBacco from Canada.
With less than a minute remaining in the first period, Mensah-Stock hit a slick single for a takedown and put DiBacco right to her back to get the fall in 2:17, becoming the fourth U.S. woman to win a Pan Am Games title this week.
To get to the finals, Mensah-Stock picked up a 12-0 tech fall and semifinal pin.
At 76 kg, four-time World champion and two-time Pan American Games champion Adeline Gray withdrew from the tournament at 76 kg.
USA women’s freestyle completes its tournament with five medals, including four gold and one silver.
The 2019 Pan American Games wrap up tomorrow with the remaining four men’s freestyle weights – 74 kg, 86 kg, 97 kg and 125 kg.
