Diakomihalis will wrestle for gold tomorrow morning in men's freestyle.

Warsaw, Poland- On the second day of wrestling, the lone U.S. men’s freestyle competitor in the Ziolkowski Memorial, Yianni Diakomihalis made the tournament finals. Diakomihalis has looked dominant thus far, winning his opening match 10-0 over Shaohua Yuan of China and following it up with an 11-0 victory over Sayatbek Okasov of Kazakhstan. In the semifinals he received a forfeit over Hungary’s Ismael Musukaev, a wrestler he defeated by disqualification at the Yasar Dogu after trailing 9-0, last month. Diakomihalis will face Ukraine’s Gor Ogannesyan in the finals.

Two Greco-Roman wrestlers will compete for bronze medals tomorrow at the Pytlasinski Memorial. Despite dropping their opening matches, Taylor LaMont (60kg) and Morgan Flaharty (67 kg), will wrestle for third after being pulled back into to repechage. LaMont will face Gevorg Gharibyan of Hungary, and Flaharty will see Asker Orshokdungor of Russia.

Two Americans won their opening-round matches at 77 kg. Andrew Berreyesa defeated fellow American Brandon Mueller, 4-1, and Alex Mossing bested Bing Yan of China, 7-5. Both wrestlers dropped their next matches, and their opponents failed to make the finals, meaning neither were pulled into repechage.

At the Poland Open, women’s freestyle wrestlers Katherine Shai (53 kg), Lauren Louive (62 kg) and Maya Nelson (62 kg), all won their opining matches. Unfortunately, the trio all lost in the following round and were not pulled into repechage.

Action for these weight classes will resume tomorrow at 6 a.m.
