Frank Popolizio and his team at the Journeymen Wrestling Club have a reputation for doing many great things for the sport of wrestling. Whether it is the training they provide for young wrestlers in the Capitol region of New York, their innovative competitions and their college wrestling showcase events, this is an organization that often pushes the envelope for wrestling.

Popolizio has put tremendous time and effort supporting international wrestling, not only hosting past U.S. Senior international dual meets, but also inviting age-group international wrestlers to the USA for high-level training camps and live competition.

They are especially excited about this year’s activity, which has additional nations involved and even more opportunity to learn and compete. It is all focused on Cadet and Junior wrestlers.

The live wrestling portion of the event is the Journeymen / MyHouse World Classic & Duals which will be held at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. It’s an individual tournament (April 13), coupled with duals (April 14). The events are sanctioned by USA Wrestling.

The following 17 countries are expected to be represented at the camp and competition: Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia, Estonia, Lithuania, Italy, France, Austria, Peru, Guatemala, Panama, Canada, Finland, Korea, Bolivia, Latvia and Greece.

The dual portion will feature state teams (and some club teams) against the World Teams. The Dual Teams this year include: 1) NY - Team 1; 2) NY - Team 2; 3) NY - BTS ; 4) NJ ; 5) CT; 6) VA; 7) FL ; 8) OH ; 9) LVWC (PA); 10) Team HCB (Southern); 11) International World Team 1 ; 12) International World Team 1

“There are not many international opportunities for this age group. Most of them include the United States and Canada. This is an anomaly. It has become a valuable asset to wrestling in our country. It is a unique opportunity, which includes training, an individual event and a dual-teams event,” said Popolizio.

The event is well known for its Hammer awards, which are given to the winner of the first bracket in each high school weight class.

The camp and the competitions would not be possible without these sponsors: Bob Reny, Oak Grove Industries, MyHouse, Defense Soap. Fans can enjoy the events live on FloWrestling.
