USA gets day two draws in Poland, with six men and three women freestylers plus two in Greco-Roman

WARSAW, Poland – The second set of U.S. wrestlers, with competitors in all three styles, have weighed in and received their draws for the international events being contested in Poland this weekend.


The women’s freestyle event is called the Poland Open. In men’s freestyle, the tournament is entitled the Ziolkowski Memorial. In Greco-Roman, the competition is the Pytlasinski Memorial.


Three members of the U.S. Senior Women’s World Team will start competition on Saturday. This will serve as a final tune-up for the U.S. World Team members, in what is also a UWW Ranking Tournament for women.


At 53 kg, Sarah Hildebrandt opens against 2015 Junior World champion Nanami Irie of Japan. Mallory Velte faces 2018 European U23 champion Ilona Prokopenniuk of Ukraine in her first bout at 62 kg. Tamyra Mensah-Stock had drawn 2017 Canadian World Team member Olivia DiBacco at 68 kg.


Six U.S. men freestylers are weighed in and ready to go for Saturday. Freestyle National Team member Joe Colon will start his competition at 61 kg against 2017 U23 World silver medalist Kuat Amirtayev of Kazakhstan. There are four U.S. athletes competing at 61 kg in Poland this year.


Two Greco-Roman wrestlers are also in the field, including 2014 World Team member Joe Rau at 87 kg.

Warsaw is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone. The first session is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in Warsaw.
