Medal matches set for Friday’s Greco-Roman finals; Hungary to battle for two golds

BUDAPEST, Hungary – The first set of Greco-Roman medals will be awarded Friday night at the World Wrestling Championships at the Laszlo Papp SportsArena.
Host Hungary has two wrestlers in the gold-medal finals, with 2016 World champion Balint Korpasi at 72 kg and 2014 World champion Peter Bacsi at 72 kg. Hungary is the only nation with two finalists on Friday.
Korpasi will battle two-time World champion Frank Staebler of Germany in a highly-anticipated finals bout.
Bacsi, 35 years old, has drawn 2013 World bronze medalist Emrah Kus of Turkey in his gold medal finals.
The 55 kg finals features some exciting young talent. Two-time Junior World champion Eldaniz Azizli of Azerbaijan will face 2017 Junior World silver medalist Zholaman Sharshenbekov of Kyrgyzstan for the gold medal in the lightest weight class.
Going for gold at 63 kg are three-time World medalist Elmurat Tasmuradov of Uzbekistan and 2017 World bronze medalist Stepan Maranyan of Russia.
Friday morning’s repechage filled in the bronze-medal bouts in the four weight classes.
The finals are set for 6:00 p.m., which is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone. All of the competition is broadcast live on TrackWrestling.
