Update: Burroughs, Gwiazdowski, Taylor, Colon get draws for World Championships in Budapest

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Four U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers received their draws for the World Wrestling Championships, which begin on Saturday at the Papp Laszlo Arena.
At 74 kg/163 lbs., 2012 Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids/Nebraska WTC) received a No. 4 seed during the technical meeting prior to the draw. Burroughs opens against V. Juah of Liberia., who has no significant international achievements.
Because of his seed, Burroughs draws into his half-bracket the No. 1 seed, Frank Chamizo of Italy, a two-time World champion and Olympic bronze medalist, who Burroughs would face in the semifinals if they both advance. Also in Burroughs’ half-bracket are 2011 World silver medalist Franklin Gomez of Puerto Rico and 2016 World bronze medalist Mostafa Hosseinkhani of Iran.
The opposite half-bracket includes two-time World bronze medalist Mandakhnaran Ganzorig of Mongolia, 2016 Olympic bronze medalist and 2017 World bronze medalist Soner Demirtas of Turkey, 2014 World bronze medalist Bekzod Abdurakmonov of Uzbekistan and 2017 World bronze medalist Yuhi Fujinami of Japan.
A 2012 Olympic champion, Burroughs owns four World Championship gold medals (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017) and a 2014 World bronze medal. He has made every U.S. World and Olympic team since 2011. Burroughs was a two-time NCAA champion and a Hodge Trophy winner for Nebraska, and hails from Sicklerville, N.J.
At 125 kg/275 lbs., 2017 World bronze medalist Nick Gwiazdowski (Raleigh, N.C./Titan Mercury WC/Wolfpack RTC) received the No. 1 seed. In his first match, he will face Zolboo Natsagsuren, who was fifth in 2017 World Championships. Gwiazdowski defeated Natsagsuren in the 2017 World bronze-medal bout, 6-1. There are eight athletes in Gwiazdowski’s half-bracket.
The other half-bracket from Gwiazdowski includes 2017 World champion and 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Geno Petriashvili of Georgia, 2016 Olympic champion and two-time World champion Taha Akgul of Turkey, 2015 World silver medalist Jamaladdin Magomedov of Azerbaijan and 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Ibrahim Saidau of Belarus.
Gwiazdowski, a 2017 World bronze medalist, is on his second straight U.S. Senior World Team. A two-time NCAA champion and three-time finalist for NC State, he also was an All-American as a freshman for Binghamton. Gwiazdowski hails from Delanson, N.Y.
At 86 kg/189 lbs., David Taylor (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) received the No. 2 seed and will face Olympic and World champion Hassan Yazdani Charati of Iran in his first match..

Yazdani Charati, who Taylor pinned in the 2017 World Cup, did not receive a seed, and randomly drew right next to Taylor in the bracket. Also in Taylor’s half-bracket are 2018 Russian national champion Dauren Kurugliev and 2015 World bronze medalist Sandro Aminashvili of Georgia.
In the opposite half-bracket from Taylor are 2017 World silver medalist Boris Makoev of Slovakia and 2013 World bronze medalist Istvan Vereb of Hungary.
Taylor is competing on his first Senior World Team. A two-time NCAA champion, two-time Hodge Trophy winner and four-time NCAA finalist for Penn State, Taylor is from St. Paris, Ohio.
At 61 kg/134 lbs., Joe Colon (Fresno, Calif. /Titan Mercury WC/Valley RTC) received the No. 4 seed, and will open with a bye. In the second round, he faces the winner of the preliminary bout between Ivan Bileichuk of Ukraine and Kairat Amirtayev of Kazakhstan. Bileichuk was 10th in the 2017 World Championships, while Amirtayev was fifth in the 2017 Medved International in Belarus.
Also in Colon’s half-bracket are two-time World bronze medalist Yowlys Bonne Rodriguez of Cuba and 2013 World bronze medalist Vladimer Dubov of Bulgaria
In the opposite half-bracket from Colon are 2017 World silver medalist Gadzhimurad Rashidov of Russia and 2013 World bronze medalist Vladimer Dubov of Bulgaria
Colon is competing in his first Senior World Championships. He is a replacement for the injured Nahshon Garrett. Colon was an All-American at Northern Iowa and also an NJCAA champion for Iowa Central CC. He is from Clear Lake, Iowa. Colon is the volunteer assistant coach for Fresno State.
