On the Fourth of July, representing the USA at the Cadet World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, Matthew Ramos was able to display the Stars and Stripes after winning the gold medal at 51 kg in men's freestyle. A native of Illinois, Ramos defeated Kota Takahashi of Japan in the gold-medal finals. In the second period of a close match, Ramos took advantage of a scramble to get Takahashi on his back and secure a pin and the Cadet World title. Ramos won four bouts on the way to his gold, including wins over opponents from Greece, Mongolia and Iran.
