Adeline Gray, shown competing at the 2018 World Cup, remains No. 1 at 76 kg, and has qualified for the 2018 World Championships through Final X.
United World Wrestling released its July 2018 Ranking Series standings in women's freestyle, which featured three U.S. wrestlers holding No. 1 rankings in their weight class.
The three Americans on top of the standings are Sarah Hildebrandt (53 kg), Kayla Miracle (63 kg) and Adeline Gray (76 kg), all who were No. 1 in the last UWW Women’s Ranking Series standings released in May.
None of the ranked U.S. women have competed in an international event as part of the ranking series since the May rankings were released.
Domestic events do not count toward the Ranking Series. Hildebrandt and Gray won their weight classes in Final X in June, and will represent the USA at the 2018 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in October. Miracle was second in her Final X series, and will be No. 2 on the USA national team for 2018-19.
The 2018 season is the first in which United World Wrestling is utilizing an objective ranking system. The points acquired at continental championships and select rankings series will determine the top four seeded athletes at the 2018 World Championships in October held in Budapest.
The USA has the most top-ranked women's wrestlers with three.
Other No.1-ranked wrestlers include Alina Vuc (ROU) at 50kg, Bediha Gun (TUR) at 55kg, Irina Olgonova (RUS) at 57kg, Elif Yesilirmak (TUR) at 59kg, Petra Olli (FIN) at 65kg, Laura Skujina (LAT) at 68kg, and Jenny Fransson (SWE) at 72kg.
Two other U.S. women received top 10 rankings, Forrest Molinari (No. 3 at 65 kg) and Whitney Conder (No. 7 at 50 kg). Both won their Final X events, and will also compete at the 2018 World Championships in Budapest
The other U.S. wrestlers who have scored points in the UWW Ranking Series and are in the current standings include:
No. 11 at 72 kg - Hanna GLADDEN (USA) // 14 Points
No. 15 at 55 kg - Becka LEATHERS (USA) // 15 Points
No. 15 at 57 kg - Michaela BECK (USA) // 18 Points
No. 16 at 72 kg - Rachel WATTERS (USA) // 12 Points
No. 17 at 72 kg - Victoria FRANCIS (USA) // 12 Points
These are the same 10 wrestlers who appeared in the May ranking series. As with the May standings, the U.S. had three 72 kg wrestlers in the standings, but did not have anyone at either 59 kg or 68 kg. Of the five wrestlers ranked between No. 11 and No. 12, Leathers and Watters were second in Final X and will be No. 2 on the USA Women’s National Team for 2018-19.
