KRASNOYARSK, Russia - The U.S. came away with two medal-winning performances to open things up at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix on Friday. Top-flight talent Alli Ragan secured a silver medal in women's freestyle and Olympian Frank Molinaro battled back to win bronze in men's freestyle.

It was tough sledding for Ragan in the 59 kg/130 lbs. finals. Chinese upstart Ningning Rong controlled all aspects of the action against the two-time World runner-up from the U.S. Rong opened the scoring with a front headlock roll through. A pair of takedown-to-turn combinations gave Rong the 10-0 final.

Ragan finished with a medal at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix for the second-straight year. She won a bronze medal at 60 kg/132 lbs. in 2017 to accompany her effort this time around.

Molinaro gritted out a 5-3 win over Levan Kelekhsashvili of Georgia in the 70 kg/154 lbs. bronze-medal match. It was a battle of position between the two. Six of the eight points awarded in the match were off of step outs. Molinaro scored the only takedown of the contest, a crucial high-c converted midway through the second period.

A pair of men's freestyle athletes were unable to capitalize in the medal round, settling for fifth-place finishes.

Tony Ramos, a two-time U.S. World Team member, fell to 2016 Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix champion Aleksander Bogomoev of Russia, 4-0, in the 61 kg/134 lbs. bronze-medal match. Bogomoev tallied points off a first-period shot clock, plus a step out point and single leg finish in the second frame.

In a hard-fought contest, Frank Perrelli came up two points shy of Russia's Khuresh Ool Donduk Ool for 57 kg/125 lbs. bronze. Perrelli struck first with an early takedown, and led the bout at the break, 3-2. In the second frame, Donduk Ool snatched a takedown and step out to clinch the 5-3 win.

NCAA champion Cory Clark and two-time U.S. World Team member Victoria Anthony were unable to qualify for the evening session.

Weight classes scheduled to compete tomorrow in Krasnoyarsk are 53 kg, 57 kg, 62 kg and 68 kg in women's freestyle and 65 kg, 79 kg and 125 kg in men's freestyle. There will be 10 American participants in action.

The second day of wrestling at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix is set to begin at 11 p.m. (ET) on Friday. Medal matches will follow at 6 a.m. (ET) Saturday morning. A live stream of the event is being provided to U.S. residents at Trackwrestling.com.
