Rockport, TX - On Thursday, January 18th, volunteers from the United States Marine Corps and the wrestling community will join CitiHope and the US Wrestling Foundation at Veterans Memorial High School in Corpus Christi to host a dual meet with the area’s wrestling team.

The event will also feature special guest 2x World wrestling medalist James Green and Olympic coach, Dan Russell, who will present the keys to the Rockport family – who now have a newly rebuilt home.

This event begins promptly at 6 pm Central and is open to the public.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the wettest tropical hurricane in United States history, many regions along the Gulf Coast have a long road ahead of them. One of the hardest hit places was Rockport, Texas, where Harvey’s eye – along with wind gusts of over 130 mph – left many residents of this small town with catastrophic damage and little hope.

We all face challenges in our lives, it’s how we respond that makes a difference. Everyone wrestles. It is this courage and perseverance that we want to recognize in the people of Rockport. By bringing the community together we can stand together in the trials and encourage each other to overcome adversity.

Based in the Catskill Mountains of Margaretville, New York, CitiHope Relief and Development has an over 25-year history of humanitarian aid and relief, delivering over $1 billion in food, medicine, and medical supplies around the world. With a renewed focus to bring hope both at home and abroad, many individuals, churches and businesses have joined CitiHope in a relief effort, donating their time, talents, and materials to help a few families recover and rebuild.

Due to the generosity of amazing supporters across the United States, over 34,000 pounds of construction materials were sent to Rockport, Texas in the fall of 2017. Utilizing the resourcefulness of construction-minded folks, multiple work groups dedicated their time to help these families rebuild. Roofing, flooring, drywall projects were completed to help these families return home.

Now, with a completed home, CitiHope and their volunteers have joined forces with US Wrestling Foundation to bring the community of Rockport and surrounding towns together to celebrate their collective spirit of rising up to the challenge of rebuilding together. With the theme “Wrestling for Rockport,” these organizations hope to inspire the region to stay positive and to support those who are still struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

To support the effort, donations are welcome at uswrestlingfoundation.com/rockport
