Coach Mayabb was a member of Cameron High School’s 1978 State Championship Wrestling Team and was the runner-up at 98 pounds. When asked about his greatest Cameron memory, Coach Mayabb explained that it was “watching Charles Scott become our school’s first State Champion. I miss him every day… he was such an outstanding young man. Our friendship changed my life’s course. I became a teach and coach because I saw the impact coaches could make, and being part of a state title team always creates special memories.”
In college, Coach Mayabb was on the wrestling team at the University of Central Missouri, where he was a two-time captain, a two-time NCAA qualifier and the MIAA Conference Most Outstanding Wrestler in 1984. More importantly, Coach Mayabb’s “coaching tree” has branched out to include over 90 former high school students that now hold the important role of “Coach” at various levels.
