OSAA in Oregon to add Girls State Wrestling Championships, becoming eighth state with official girls states

USA Wrestling’s Girls High School Development Committee has received official word that the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA), which oversees high school sports in Oregon, has added an official Girls State Wrestling Championships, to begin in the 2018-19 season.
An official vote was held by the OSAA Executive Board, which unanimously approved a separate state championships division for girls starting next year. Currently, there is a girls exhibition event affiliated with the boys state championships. The girls state championship will be considered another division under the OSAA wrestling program.
Over this past weekend, officials from the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), which oversees high school sports in Georgia, announced an official Girls State Wrestling Championships, also to begin in the 2018-19 season. The details of the Georgia plan has not yet been finalized.
The addition of Georgia and Oregon raise the number of states with official girls state championships to eight, joining Hawaii, Texas, California, Washington, Tennessee and Alaska with state-sanctioned girls wrestling championships.
