Gwiazdowski ranked No. 1, Gilman and Taylor No. 2, Dake at No. 4 in August UWW Freestyle Ranking Series

United World Wrestling released its August 2018 Ranking Series standings in men's freestyle, which featured four U.S. wrestlers holding rankings in the top four of their weight class.
Coming in at No. 1 at 125 kg/275 lbs. is Nick Gwiazdowski (Raleigh, N.C./Titan Mercury WC). Gwiazdowski, a 2017 World bronze medalist and member of the 2018 U.S. World Team, recently placed third at the Yasar Dogu International in Turkey, a UWW ranking tournament.
The 2018 season is the first in which United World Wrestling is utilizing an objective ranking system. The points acquired at continental championships and select rankings series will determine the top four seeded athletes at the 2018 World Championships in October held in Budapest.
The U.S. has a pair of No. 2 ranked athletes in the August series standings, both members of the 2018 U.S. World Team, Thomas Gilman (Iowa City, Iowa/Titan Mercury WC) at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. and David Taylor (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) at 86 kg/189 lbs..
Both Gilman and Taylor won gold medals at the Yasar Dogu International last weekend. Gilman was a 2017 World silver medalist.
Also coming in at No. 4 at 79 kg/174 lbs. is 2018 World Team member Kyle Dake (State College, Pa./Titan Mercury WC). Dake was a champion at the Yasar Dogu International.
Over, the USA has 12 wrestlers who appear in the top 20 of the UWW Ranking Series this month. Three others are in the top 10 of their weight classes.
2016 Olympic champion and two-time World champion Kyle Snyder holds down No. 6 at 97 kg/213 lbs. with 29 points. Snyder, a 2018 World Team member, was third at the Yasar Dogu International.
Holding No. 9 at 65 kg/143 lbs. is 2016 World champion Logan Stieber with 24 points. Stieber is also a member of the 2018 U.S. World Team.
Securing No. 10 at 97 kg/213 lbs. is Kyven Gadson (Ames, Iowa/Sunkist Kids). Gadson was second in Final X this year behind Snyder.
Other U.S. wrestlers in the Ranking Series include
• No. 11 at 61 kg – Joe Colon (Fresno, Calif./Titan Mercury WC)
• No. 11 at 79 kg – Mark Hall (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC)

• No. 16 at 92 kg – Ben Provisor (State College, Pa./New York AC)
• No. 18 at 70 kg – James Green (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids)
Five past U.S. college wrestlers competing for other nations are also in the rankings. Bekzod Abdurakhmanov of Uzbekistan, who wrestled for Clarion, is No. 2 at 74 kg with 37 points. David Habat of Slovenia, who wrestled for Edinboro, is No. 11 at 65 kg with 23 points. Stevan Micic of Serbia, who wrestles for Michigan, is No. 15 at 57 kg. Ethan Ramos of Puerto Rico, who wrestled for North Carolina, is No. 15 at 79 kg. Nestor Tafur Barrios of Columbia, who wrested for Boston University, is No. 16 at 74 kg with 21 points.
