UWW Junior men’s Freestyle and Greco-Roman Nationals set for Las Vegas, Nev., April 25-28

The nation’s best 17-20 year olds will compete in both Greco-Roman and men’s freestyle at the Junior Nationals (UWW age-group) at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev., April 26-28. This event will feature many of the nation’s best college underclassmen and high school stars.
The UWW Junior National events are part of the 2018 Open Wrestling Championships, April 24-28. This event offers competitions in men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle, Greco-Roman, Folkstyle and Grappling, for wrestlers from youth ages to the Senior level and up to the Masters division.
The UWW Junior Greco-Roman Nationals is the qualifier for the 2018 UWW Junior Greco-Roman World Team Trials in Indianapolis, Ind. The top eight Greco-Roman finisher in each of the UWW Junior weight categories will earn a spot in the Junior World Team Trials.
The UWW Junior Freestyle National Championships will act as a qualifier into the 2018 UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials in Rochester, Minn., May 18-19. The top eight freestyle finishers per weight category will earn a spot in the 2018 U.S. UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials.
2017 UWW Junior Freestyle National champions that are eligible to return to this year's competition include 2017 Junior World champions Daton Fix (Titan Mercury WC) at 55 kg and Gable Steveson (Minnesota Storm) at heavy weight.
Adding to the list of eligible 2017 UWW Junior Freestyle National champions to return include Malik Heinselman (Olympian WC) at 50 kg and Jacob Covaciu (Wisconsin) at 79 kg.
Returning 2017 UWW Junior Greco-Roman National champions eligible to compete include 2017 Cadet World champion Cohlton Schultz (120 kg/NYAC), Elijah Varona (46 kg-50 kg/NYAC/New York RTC), Dalton Young (60 kg/Team Washington), Tristan Porsch (63 kg/Trojan Wrestling Club), Dominick Demas (66 kg/Columbus Wrestling Club), Tyler Dow (70 kg/Badger Regional Training Center) and Wyatt Koelling (84 kg/Missouri Wrestling Foundation).
The UWW Junior Division is open to anyone who is born 1998-2000 or 2001 with medical certificate.
