COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – There will be many format changes when the historic 20th Dave Schultz Memorial International is hosted at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, Nov. 1-4.

Certainly, the date change is the most visible, as this major international wrestling competition has been historically hosted in either late January or early February. The move to a November date better fits Team USA’s international scheduling and training plan.

During meetings at the 2017 World Wrestling Championships, United World Wrestling announced significant changes in the event presentation format and weight class structure of international wrestling. USA Wrestling will institute these new changes for the Dave Schultz Memorial International, all which go into effect completely worldwide in January 2018.

Instead of a one-day competition format, each weight class will now be contested over two days. On the first day, competition will be held through the semifinals, with the conclusion of the consolation matches and the medal-match finals held on the second day. There will be two weigh-ins for each weight class, both held on the morning of the competition. For the Dave Schultz Memorial International, the second day weigh-ins will feature a 2 kg allowance.

Based upon this new schedule, the 20th Dave Schultz Memorial International schedule includes Greco-Roman on Nov. 1-2, women’s freestyle on Nov. 2-3 and men’s freestyle on Nov. 3-4.

In addition, USA Wrestling will host the tournament in the new 2018 weight classes, which have been expanded to 10 weight categories in each Olympic discipline. These will be the same weight classes contested at the Senior level at the 2018 World Championships and major international events moving forward. They are:
