Brent Harvey of Whitmore Lake, Mich., 46, a leader in the development of wrestling opportunities for girls and women, passed away on Friday in Michigan after a motorcycle accident.

Brent’s family and friends will gather Friday October 27, 2017 from 2:00PM-8:00PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel. His Community Farewell will be held on Saturday October 28, 2017 at 11:00AM (Gathering 10:00AM) at Shalom Lutheran Church, 1740 M-36 Pinckney, Michigan.

Memorial contributions are suggested to either the family for future designation or to Michigan Woman’s Wrestling to set up a scholarship in Brent’s honor. Please leave a message of comfort for Brent’s family at 1-877-231-7900, or sign his guestbook at www.borekjennings.com.

Harvey served many years on USA Wrestling’s Women’s Age-Group Council, and was active with USA Wrestling’s state association in Michigan for many years.

He created the War of the Roses girls wrestling series of events, which were all-girls youth wrestling competitions held on the local, state and regional levels.

Harvey continued the legacy of another Michigan girls wrestling leader, Kent Bailo, a pioneer for girls wrestling with the U.S. Girls Wrestling Association (USGWA). When Bailo stepped back from running USGWA events, Harvey expanded his War of the Roses series to continue providing opportunity to girls across the nation.

Harvey received both the Coach of the Year Award and the Person of the Year Award given by USA Wrestling’s Women’s Age Group Council.

“Nobody matched Brent’s enthusiasm for girls wrestling in the United States,” said Patricia Fox, who chaired the Women’s Age-Group Council for many years working alongside Harvey.
