2017 Junior World champion Daton Fix, who is now a freshman at Oklahoma State, has registered to compete at 57 kg/125 lbs. in men’s freestyle at the 2017 U23 World Team Trials in Rochester, Minn. this weekend.
Fix, who was also a 2016 Junior World bronze medalist, will seek to make his second U.S. age-group World Team of the year. Fix won his Junior World title at 55 kg/121 lbs. this summer.
He joins 2017 Junior World champions Maya Nelson in women’s freestyle and Kamal Bey in Greco-Roman in the field at the U23 World Team Trials.
His entry sets up a potential matchup with 2015 NCAA champion Nathan Tomasello of Ohio State, who has already signed up for 57 kg. Tomasello was third at the 2017 Senior World Team Trials, putting him on the Senior National Freestyle Team. Tomasello is entering his senior year at Ohio State as a three-time All-American.
Along with Fix, Oklahoma State wrestlers, representing the Cowboy RTC and Titan Mercury WC, who have registered are: Gary Wayne Harding (59 kg), Boo Lewallen (65 kg) and Anthony Collica (70 kg).
Fans can watch Fix and all of the nation’s top 18-23 year old wrestlers on Saturday and Sunday live on Trackwrestling.
