Tomasello, Futrell win golds as U.S. gets five freestyle medals at Ion Corneanu International in Romania

BUCHAREST, Romania – Two U.S. athletes, Nathan Tomasello (Parma, Ohio/Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC) at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. and B.J. Futrell (Philadelphia, Pa./Titan Mercury WC/Pennsylvania RTC) at 65 kg/143 lbs., won men’s freestyle gold medals at the Ion Corneanu International on Saturday.


Information is not currently available, but this is what we have received to this point.


Tomasello scored a 3-3 win over a Russian opponent in the finals, while Futrell defeated a Turkish opponent, 8-2


Earning a silver medal at 97 kg/213 lbs. was Kyven Gadson, Ames, Iowa (Sunkist Kids), who was beaten in the finals to a German opponent 4-0.


Bronze medals went to Joey McKenna (Towaco, N.J./Lehigh Valley AC) at 65 kg/143 lbs. and Tony Nelson (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 125 kg/275 lbs.


McKenna’s only loss came in the second round to Futrell. In his bronze-medal match, McKenna beat a wrestler from Turkey. Nelson won his bronze-medal match by forfeit.
