- Olympic bronze medalist Stig-Andre Berge drops opening match to Junior World and Asian champion Kanybek Zholchubekov (Uzbekistan), 3-1.

- Taleh Mammadov (Azerbaijan) dec. 2015 U23 European champion Victor Ciobanu (Moldova), 12-9.

Round of 32

- Vazgen Khachatryan (Armenia) dec. Ildar Hafizov (United States), 8-3. Khachatryan struck first with a four-point toss. Hafizov countered a throw attempt for two points. Hafizov dinged for caution and two for a front headlock choke. Khachatryan hit for passivity point. Match ended with a Khachatryan takedown from body lock position.

- Stepan Maryanyan (Russia) dec. 2016 Junior World silver medalist Etienne Kinsinger (Germany), 2-2.

- 2013 World champion Won-Chol Yun (PRK) falls to European bronze medalist Ivan Lizatovic (Croatia), 2-1.

- Pan American silver medalist Jansel Pimental Gonzalez (Dominican Republic) dec. 2013 Junior World bronze medalist Radoslav Vasilev (Bulgaria), 3-1.

- Ellis Coleman (United States) dominates Diego Ribeiro Romanelli (Brazil), scoring two takedowns and four step outs in the first period for an 8-0 technical fall victory.

- 2013 World champion Han-Soo Ryu (Korea) dec. 2010 Junior World champion and 2016 Military World silver medalist Kamran Mammadov (Azerbaijan), 2-1.

- Mate Krasnai (Hungary) upends European bronze medalist Goga Gogiberashvili (Georgia), 3-3.

- Olympic silver medalist and four-time World silver medalist Mark Madsen (Denmark) upset by Daniel Aleksandrov (Bulgaria), 9-9.

- Cheney Haight (United States) defeated by Laslo Szbao (Hungary) by fall. Haight led 2-0 after the first period, but couldn’t hold on to the lead in the latter stages. Two takedown-to-turn combinations ultimately led to a Szabo fall in 5:37.

- Two-time Olympic champion Roman Vlasov (Russia) goes down to 2014 World bronze medalist Elvin Mursaliev (Azerbaijan) on criteria, 2-2.

- Olympic bronze medalist and No. 2 seed Sabah Shariati (Azerbaijan) lost his opening match to Nikolai Kuchmiy (Ukraine), 2-1.

- Yasmani Acosta Fernandez (Chile) defeats Robby Smith (United States), 3-1. Acosta Fernandez scored on two step outs and one passivity call. Smith was granted a passivity call of his own.

Round of 32

- Robby Smith (United States) pins Tamas Soos (Slovakia) in 1:54. Leading 2-0 after a passivity and step out point, Smith locked up an over-under body lock and let it rip. He picked up the first U.S. win of the day.

- Two-time Pan American champion Oscar Pino Hands (Cuba) dec. European silver medalist Balint Lam (Hungary), 5-1.
