TBILISI, Georgia – The first five U.S. wrestlers competing at the 2016 Cadet World Championships have weighed in and received their draws for the opening day of Greco-Roman competition at New Sports Palace in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Taking the mat on Tuesday for the American squad are Malik Johnson (Florissant, Mo.), Real Woods (Wheaton, Ill.), Jack Davis (Hanover Township, Pa.), Peyton Omania (Concord, Calif.) and Cohlton Schultz (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
“Our guys, you know, we’re always in good shape. We’re going to fight every match hard. Just to go out there and feel good. Go out there and control the pace, stay in their face, and be aggressive,” said U.S. coach Shawn Sheldon after weigh-ins.
Johnson, a 2015 USAW Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals champion, will open the day at 50 kg/110 lbs. against Abdullah Toprak of Turkey.
Woods is set to face two-time Cadet Asian medalist Zholaman Sharshenbekov of Kyrgyzstan in the first round at 54 kg/119 lbs. Woods won the USAW Preseason Nationals last year.
