2016 U.S. Olympians Gray and Maroulis remain No. 1 in UWW Women’s Freestyle May rankings

2016 U.S. Olympians Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) and Helen Maroulis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Sunkist Kids), are atop the United World Wrestling rankings for the month of May.
Gray continued her dominance of the 75 kg weight class at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Iowa City, Iowa on April 10, by bulldozing her way through Victoria Francis, outscoring her 21-0 in a pair of technical falls in the Championship Series. Gray is a three-time World champion and five-time World medalist.
Maroulis, a 2015 World champion at 55 kg, remains ranked No. 1 at 55 kg, even though she has dropped to 53 kg this month. She powered through U.S. Olympic Team Trials, winning five matches by technical fall including a two-match sweep over three-time World Team member Whitney Conder in the Championship Series. She dominated by winning a gold medal at the World Olympic Games Qualifier in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, qualifying for the Rio Olympic Games. Maroulis scored a pin, two technical falls and a decision there. She is a three-time World medalist.
2016 U.S. Olympian Elena Pirozhkova (Colorado Springs, Colo. /Titan Mercury WC) ranked No. 12 at 69 kg. Pirozhkova took the top spot at 63 kg at the U.S. Olympic Trials after defeating No. 17 Erin Clodgo, the 2015 U.S. World Team member in the finals series. Pirozhkova returned to the weight class where she made the 2012 Olympic Team and has won four World medals, including a 2012 World gold.
2016 U.S. Olympian Haley Augello (Lockport, Ill./New York AC/OTC) jumped into the top 20 after finishing second at the Ulaanbaatar Olympic Games Qualifier as she punched her ticket to Rio. Augello won the U.S. Olympic Team Trials earlier in the month, defeating Victoria Anthony in the Championship Series. In Mongolia. Augello won all three of her early round matches by technical fall and outscored her opponents by a combined total of 32-1, before falling in the finals.
Also making an appearance in this month’s rankings was 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Champion Kelsey Campbell (Tempe, Ariz. Sunkist Kids), who checked in at No. 15 at 58 kg. The Tempe, Ariz. native upset the top-ranked Alli Ragan in the finals at Trials in two straight matches to win her second career Olympic Trials. Campbell will compete in Turkey this weekend to attempt to qualify the weight class and herself for the Olympic Games.
2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Champion Tamyra Mensah (Katy, Texas/Titan Mercury WC/OTC) checks in at No. 19 at 69 kg after a third place finish at the Ulaanbaatar World Olympic Games Qualifier and a victory at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Mensah also competes this weekend in the final World Olympic Qualifier in Turkey.
2015 World bronze medalist Leigh Jaynes-Provisor (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) checked in at No. 11 at 60 kg after winning Bronze at the Pan American Championships in February.
Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach Calif./Sunkist Kids) fell to No. 16 at 48 kg. Anthony recently won the Klippan Lady Open in Sweden. Also ranked for the U.S is Sarah Hildebrandt (Granger, Ind./New York AC/OTC) who checks in at No. 13 at 55 kg.
