DOROG, Hungary – Two U.S. wrestlers won medals at the Black Diamond Junior Greco-Roman Cup on Saturday.

Kamal Bey of Illinois was on fire at 74 kg/163 lbs., pinning four straight opponents on the way to gold. Bey pinned Tamas Levai of Hungary in the championship match.

Bey is currently training in Greco-Roman at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“Kamal Bey dominated the competition, pinning all of his opponents in the first period. He wrestled great and beat a really good wrestler in the finals from the host city, Dorog, Hungary,” said U.S. Coach Mark Halvorson.

At 66 kg, Peyton Omania of California claimed a silver medal. He won three straight to qualify for the finals, earning decisions over opponents from Romania, Hungary and Poland. In the championship finals, he lost to Bence Balatoni of Hungary, 2-7.

“Omania also had a good tournament. He won a tough match in the semis against a very tough wrestler from Poland,” said Halvorson.

Placing fifth with a 2-2 record at 97 kg/211.5 lbs. was Darryl Aiello of California. He had wins over two wrestlers from host Hungary.

There were 16 countries represented in this respected Junior tournament.

The U.S. team will participate in a training camp for a week, with over 100 international wrestlers participating.
