LaMont, Raschka, Storr among 11th/12th grade high school champs at USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals

Taylor LaMont of Utah, the 132-pound champion, receives his gold medal at USA Wrestling’s Preseason Nationals today in the Grade 11-12 division.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – With the season just weeks away, top high school athletes from across the nation came to the UNI-Dome at the University of Northern Iowa for the USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals.
The high school competition is broken into two division, Grades 11-12 and Grades 9-10. Some of the nation’s top wrestlers came to test themselves at this major preseason event.
2015 Junior National freestyle champion and Greco-Roman runner-up Taylor LaMont of the Champions WC edged Missouri star Kyran Hagan of the Dyersville Beckman WC in the 132 pound finals, 5-4. The first period was tied at 4-4, as LaMont got a takedown and Hagan a reversal, and each had an escape. In the second period, Hagan was penalized for stalling, giving LaMont a 5-4 lead. LaMont rode Hagan out in the third period for the victory.
In Flowrestling’s high school wrestling, LaMont is ranked No. 4 at 132, while Hagan is at No. 18 at 126. LaMont made three UWW Cadet World Teams in Greco-Roman.
2015 Cadet Nationals freestyle champion Jacob Raschka of the Askren Wrestling Academy in Wisconsin was the 195-pound champion, defeating tough Illinois wrestler Dylan Ervin of Izzy Style Wrestling, 6-3. Raschke scored takedowns in the first and second period, along with two escapes in the second period, for the margin of victory. Raschke has a No. 17 Flowrestling ranking at 182 pounds.
At 138, Michigan star Kanen Storr scored a 3-1 win over Colorado’s Ryan Deakin of Legacy WC, 3-1. With the score tied at 1-1, with escapes for both wrestlers, Storr scored a takedown with 15 seconds left to seal the win. Storr, who owns a No. 7 ranking by Flowrestling at 138, was second at the 2015 UWW Cadet Nationals in freestyle last year, and also was eighth at the UWW Junior Nationals in Greco-Roman. Deakin was sixth at the 2015 Junior Nationals
There was only one pin in the finals of the 11th-12th grade division, as Nebraska native Joseph Harrison of the MWC Wrestling Academy put away Illinois’ Austin Kedzie of the Martinez Fox Valley Elite at 106 pounds in just 53 seconds.
In an all-Illinois finals at 152, Jose Champagne beat Jake Tucker, 2-0 on a first-period takedown. Both compete for the Region Wrestling Academy.
An all-Minnesota final at 182 went to Brandon Moen of Owatonna, who edged Taylr Venz of PINnacle, 6-4. Moen had a pair of first period takedowns for the early lead which held up.
Other 11th-12th Grade champions were:

The 9th-10th grade division also featured some top stars. Winning the 100 pound division was 2015 Cadet National Triple Crown winner Mosha Schwartz of the SOT Academy of Colorado, who stopped Antonio Lorenzo of USA Gold of California, 5-2.
A big win at 106 went to Illinois’ Joey Melendez of Izzy Style Wrestling, who went two overtimes to defeat Iowa Kyle Biscoglia of the Waukee Warriors, 5-5. Biscoglia is ranked No. 19 at 106 in the Flowrestling rankings.
The champion at 126 had a. familiar family name. Jackson Henson of the Mountaineer WC of West Virginia, son of World champion and Olympic silver medalist Sammie Henson, won the 126 pound title with a 6-0 win over Jacob Mariakis of Ridgeland from Georgia.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – With the season just weeks away, top high school athletes from across the nation came to the UNI-Dome at the University of Northern Iowa for the USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals.
The high school competition is broken into two division, Grades 11-12 and Grades 9-10. Some of the nation’s top wrestlers came to test themselves at this major preseason event.
2015 Junior National freestyle champion and Greco-Roman runner-up Taylor LaMont of the Champions WC edged Missouri star Kyran Hagan of the Dyersville Beckman WC in the 132 pound finals, 5-4. The first period was tied at 4-4, as LaMont got a takedown and Hagan a reversal, and each had an escape. In the second period, Hagan was penalized for stalling, giving LaMont a 5-4 lead. LaMont rode Hagan out in the third period for the victory.
In Flowrestling’s high school wrestling, LaMont is ranked No. 4 at 132, while Hagan is at No. 18 at 126. LaMont made three UWW Cadet World Teams in Greco-Roman.
2015 Cadet Nationals freestyle champion Jacob Raschka of the Askren Wrestling Academy in Wisconsin was the 195-pound champion, defeating tough Illinois wrestler Dylan Ervin of Izzy Style Wrestling, 6-3. Raschke scored takedowns in the first and second period, along with two escapes in the second period, for the margin of victory. Raschke has a No. 17 Flowrestling ranking at 182 pounds.
At 138, Michigan star Kanen Storr scored a 3-1 win over Colorado’s Ryan Deakin of Legacy WC, 3-1. With the score tied at 1-1, with escapes for both wrestlers, Storr scored a takedown with 15 seconds left to seal the win. Storr, who owns a No. 7 ranking by Flowrestling at 138, was second at the 2015 UWW Cadet Nationals in freestyle last year, and also was eighth at the UWW Junior Nationals in Greco-Roman. Deakin was sixth at the 2015 Junior Nationals
There was only one pin in the finals of the 11th-12th grade division, as Nebraska native Joseph Harrison of the MWC Wrestling Academy put away Illinois’ Austin Kedzie of the Martinez Fox Valley Elite at 106 pounds in just 53 seconds.
In an all-Illinois finals at 152, Jose Champagne beat Jake Tucker, 2-0 on a first-period takedown. Both compete for the Region Wrestling Academy.
An all-Minnesota final at 182 went to Brandon Moen of Owatonna, who edged Taylr Venz of PINnacle, 6-4. Moen had a pair of first period takedowns for the early lead which held up.

The 9th-10th grade division also featured some top stars. Winning the 100 pound division was 2015 Cadet National Triple Crown winner Mosha Schwartz of the SOT Academy of Colorado, who stopped Antonio Lorenzo of USA Gold of California, 5-2.
A big win at 106 went to Illinois’ Joey Melendez of Izzy Style Wrestling, who went two overtimes to defeat Iowa Kyle Biscoglia of the Waukee Warriors, 5-5. Biscoglia is ranked No. 19 at 106 in the Flowrestling rankings.
The champion at 126 had a. familiar family name. Jackson Henson of the Mountaineer WC of West Virginia, son of World champion and Olympic silver medalist Sammie Henson, won the 126 pound title with a 6-0 win over Jacob Mariakis of Ridgeland from Georgia.
