2015 World champions Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids/Nebraska RTC) at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Kyle Snyder (Woodbine, Md./Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC) at 97 kg/213 lbs. finished the season ranked No. 1 in the world by United World Wrestling in men’s freestyle.

Burroughs won his third career World gold medal, along with his 2012 Olympic gold medal, with a stunning performance at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas in September. Burroughs entered the World meet as the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the world.

Snyder won a Senior World gold medal on his first try with an amazing run at the World Championships. At 19, he was the youngest Senior World champion in U.S. men’s freestyle history. Snyder had the highest jump of any of the eight World champions, moving up from No. 15 in the September rankings.

2015 World bronze medalist James Green (Lincoln, Neb./Titan Mercury WC/Nebraska RTC) finished the season with a No. 4 World ranking at 70 kg/154 lbs. Green was competing in his first Senior World Championships. He also had a substantial jump, moving up 12 spots from the No. 16 World ranking in September.

Brent Metcalf (Iowa City, Iowa/New York AC/Hawkeye WC) finished with a No. 9 World ranking at 65 kg/143 lbs. Metcalf, competing in his fourth World meet, placed 10th at the World Championships with a 2-1 record.

Three other members of the 2015 U.S. World Team received a ranking in the top 20 at their weight class:

• Tony Ramos (Iowa City, Iowa/Titan Mercury WC/Hawkeye WC), No. 13 at 57 kg/125.5 lbs.

• Reece Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio/New York AC/Ohio RTC), No. 15 at 61 kg/134 lbs.

• Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC), No. 17 at 125 kg/275 lbs.

Ramos, who was 11th at the World Championships, stayed at No. 13 in the rankings. Humphrey was unranked going into the World Championships, and finished 12th in the World meet. Rey stayed at No. 17, where he was in the September rankings, after finishing 23rd at the World Championships.

The top six wrestlers in each weight category at the world championships were automatically awarded the top six positions in this month’s rankings. The rankings No. 7 to No. 20 were determined, in part, by a wrestler’s performance in Las Vegas along with results in competition throughout 2015.
