Top U.S. and international wrestlers to compete at the 2015 Bill Farrell International in New York City

The 2015 Bill Farrell International will play host to many top international stars in the three Olympic styles of wrestling at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan on November 6-7.


A dozen nations have indicated that they will send teams: Albania, Canada, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Korea, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, United States and Uzbekistan. Athletes from other nations may also attend.


At least three past Olympic medalists are expected to compete including U.S. women freestyle wrestlers Clarissa Chun at 48 kg and Randi Miller at 69 kg, plus men’s freestyle Olympic bronze medalist Dato Marsagishvili of Georgia at 86 kg.


Past World champions among preliminary entries include U.S. women’s freestyle wrestlers Chun (2008) and Iris Smith (2005) in addition to 2012 women’s freestyle World champion Jessica MacDonald of Canada and 2006 Greco-Roman World champion for the U.S. Joe Warren.


From the preliminary entries seven past U.S. Olympians are slated to compete including Spenser Mango at 59 kg and Justin Lester at 75 kg in Greco-Roman, Sam Hazewinkel at 57 kg in men’s freestyle and Kelsey Campbell at 58 kg in women’s freestyle.


Numerous other World medalists, continental medalists and age-group World medalists are expected. Below is a partial list of the top international competitors, including their World and Olympic level achievements:

The Bill Farrell International is an open competition, and athletes are not required to register in advance. There may be additional top international stars that register on-site and enter the tournament this weekend.


The women's freestyle and the Greco-Roman competitions will be held on Friday, November 6, while the men's freestyle competition is set for Saturday, November 7. The competition is expected to feature many top Olympic hopefuls from all around the world.


The Bill Farrell International serves as an U.S. Olympic Team Trials qualifier for U.S. competitors in all three styles. The highest placed USA athlete in each weight class winning a medal who has yet to qualify will earn a spot in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. Only the 18 Olympic weight classes will be contested.
