Wood places fifth in Bayrak & Atli Junior International in Turkey

ANTALYA, Turkey – 2014 UWW Cadet World silver medalist Jordan Wood (Gilbertsville, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC), placed fifth today at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. in men’s freestyle at the respected Mithat Bayrak and Ismet Atli Junior International.


Wood finished with a 2-2 record in the tournament.


He opened with victories over opponents from Turkey and Russia. In the semifinals, Wood fell to Vitali Goloev of Russia, 0-10


In the bronze-medal match, Wood was defeated by Turkey’s Ismail Cozaki after being cautioned out.


Three other U.S. wrestlers will compete this week.


Competing on Saturday at 55 kg/121 lbs. is Stevan Micic (Cedar Lake, Ind./Chicago RTC), who was second in 2014 and 2015 UWW Junior Nationals. Micic competes for Northwestern Univ.


Competing on Sunday at 85 kg/187 lbs. will be 2015 UWW Nationals champion Zahid Valencia (Pico Rivera, Calif./Sunkist Kids) and Penn State wrestler Bo Nickal (Allen, Texas/Nittany Lion WC), who fifth in 2013 UWW Cadet Worlds. Nickal won a gold at this event in Turkey last year.
