Bisek, Mango, Williams, Martinez win U.S. Open Greco titles

LAS VEGAS – World bronze medalist Andy Bisek didn’t mess around.
Bisek charged out aggressively en route to a quick 11-0 technical fall over Dillon Cowan in the U.S. Open Greco-Roman finals on Saturday night at the South Point Arena.
The powerful Bisek earned his second straight Open title.
“I feel like I haven't had a real successful block of training,” Bisek said. “I have had some injuries. Mentally, it has helped me improve. But physically, I haven't been able to put in as much work. I got hyped up for this match and was excited to get it taken care of.”
The top two finishers at the U.S. Open advance to the Greco-Roman World Team Trials on June 4 in Ithaca, N.Y. The U.S. Open champion will enter the Trials with a 1-0 match lead over the runner-up in the best-of-3 match series.
Bisek was one of four Greco champions crowned on Saturday. The other four titles were decided on Friday.
World fifth-place finisher Spenser Mango captured his seventh Open title with a 5-0 win over 2013 World Team member Jesse Thielke. Mango, a two-time Olympian, won the title at 59 kg/130 lbs.
“It feels good,” Mango said. “Every one is special. You train hard so hard for this. To come here and win tonight, it makes it worth it. The WCAP program, we pride in being consistent. Early in my career, I was up and down. I now try to stay consistent, always moving forward and it pays off.”
Two-time World Team member Caylor Williams cruised to a 13-3 technical fall over Kevin Beazley in the finals at 98 kg/216 lbs.
Patrick Martinez earned a 3-1 win over U.S. Army teammate C.J. Myers in the finals at 80 kg/176 lbs. Martinez won his first Open title.
Jordan Holm, who won a U.S. Open title on Friday night, was named Outstanding Wrestler in Greco-Roman.
The U.S. Army won the Division I team title and the New York Athletic Club was second. The Minnesota Storm was the Division II team title.
