United World Wrestling released its newest men’s freestyle World rankings for June.

There are 10 American wrestlers in this month’s rankings among the top 20 in their weight classes.

The U.S. freestyle wrestlers did not compete in any international tournaments in May. They competed at the U.S. Open, the annual national championships in Las Vegas, with some also wrestling against Cuba in the Beat the Streets Gala event in Times Square in New York City. UWW often does not consider exhibition events like Beat the Streets in its rankings.

Of the 10 ranked U.S. wrestlers, eight have exactly the same World ranking as they had in May.

The only athlete to go up in ranking was Olympic champion Jake Varner (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC), who moved up one spot to No. 17 at 97 kg. Varner placed second at the U.S. Open in May.

The only athlete to go down in ranking was Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC) who dropped down one rank to No. 15 at 125 kg.

Holding the highest ranking again is Olympic champion and two-time World champion Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids/Nebraska RTC) at No. 2 at 74 kg. Burroughs remains behind only three-time World champion Denis Tsargush of Russia, who beat Burroughs in the World semifinals last year. Burroughs won his match in the Beat the Streets event in May.

Remaining at No. 5 at 65 kg is three-time World Team member Brent Metcalf (Iowa City, Iowa/New York AC/Hawkeye WC), who won the U.S. Open and won his Beat the Streets bout against Cuba in Times Square.

Also in the top 10 is two-time World medalist Tervel Dlagnev (Columbus, Ohio/Sunkist Kids/Ohior RTC) who remained at No. 9 at 125 kg. Dlagnev won the U.S. Open and also won his Beat the Streets match in New York.

Seven U.S. wrestlers are ranked between No. 11 – No. 20 this month.

Included are U.S. Open champions Nick Marable (Morgantown, W.Va./Sunkist Kids/Mountaineer RTC) at 70 kg and Tony Ramos (Iowa City, Iowa/Titan Mercury WC/Hawkeye WC), who is No. 13 at 57 kg. U.S. Open runners-up in the World rankings are Dustin Schlatter (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm), who is No. 15 at 70 kg, and Jordan Oliver (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids), who is No. 19 at 66 kg.

The other ranked American is Clayton Foster (Laramie, Wyo./GRIT Athletics/Cowboy WC), who remains No. 15 at 86 kg.

Three Americans in the May rankings dropped out of the rankings this month: Aaron Pico (Whittier, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) at 66 kg, Kevin LeValley (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 70 kg and Tyler Caldwell (Stillwater, Okla./Titan Mercury WC) at 74 kg. LeValley and Caldwell placed fourth in their weights at the U.S. Open. Pico chose not to compete at the U.S. Senior Open, wrestling at the UWW Junior Nationals where he won the title.
