2015 World Team member Reece Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio/New York AC/Ohio RTC) leads a talented, five-athlete U.S. men’s freestyle delegation at the Stepan Sargsyan Cup in Yerevan, Armenia, July 18-19.

Humphrey is using this competitive international tournament as his tune-up event for the World Championships in Las Vegas in September. Humphrey, an NCAA runner-up for Ohio State, will be wrestling in his third World Championships.

Three athletes who won gold medals at the Grand Prix of Spain this past weekend will also compete in Armenia: Frank Molinaro (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) at 65 kg/143 lbs., David Taylor (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Wynn Michalak (Champaign, Ill./Titan Mercury WC) at 97 kg/213 lbs.

Taylor won two NCAA titles and two Hodge Trophies for Penn State, while Molinaro was also an NCAA champion for the Nittany Lions. Michalak was a star for Central Michigan.

Also competing is talented, young Richard Perry (Philadelphia, Pa./New York AC/Pennsylvania RTC) at 86 kg/189 lbs. Perry, who wrestled for Bloomsburg, burst onto the national scene this year in freestyle.

The team is coached by 1988 Olympic coach Jim Humphrey, who is also Reece’s father. Jim Humphrey was a World silver medalist as an athlete.

The tournament is named after the great Stepan Sargysan, an Olympic silver medalist for the Soviet Union who was a native of Armenia. Sargysan lost to the great John Smith in the 1988 Olympic finals, but was one of the few to win a match over Smith during his career.
