United World Wrestling released its newest men’s freestyle World rankings for July.
There are six American wrestlers in this month’s rankings among the top 20 in their weight classes.
Olympic champion and two-time World Champion Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids) moved up to No. 1 at 74 kg. It was the first time this season that Burroughs held the No. 1 spot, a ranking he lost after winning a bronze at the 2014 World Championships. Ranked behind him are two Russians, 2015 European Games champion Aniuar Geduev at No. 2 and three-time World champion Denis Tsargush at No. 3.
Coming in at No. 5 for the third straight month at 65 kg is Brent Metcalf (Iowa City, Iowa (New York AC/Hawkeye WC).
Burroughs and Metcalf both earned spots on the 2015 U.S. World Team in June, with victories at the U.S. World Team Trials in Madison, Wis. None of the U.S. Senior wrestlers competed in any international competitions in June.
Four other U.S. wrestlers appeared in the Top 20 of their weight classes, each having dropped down from their June ranking.
