U.S. gets seven men’s freestyle golds and 10 finalists at Pan Am Cadets in Mexico

The United States captured seven men’s freestyle gold medals, along with three silver medalists, to dominate the field at the Pan American Cadet Championships on Sunday.
Winning gold medals in men’s freestyle were:
• Mosha Schwartz, Franktown, Colo. at 42 kg
• Rhett Golowenski, Tuttle, Okla. at 46 kg
• Austin Gomez, Carol Stream, Ill. at 54 kg
• Taylor LaMont, Mapleton, Utah at 58 kg
• Matthew Waddell, Ellijay, Ga. at 76 kg
• Andrew Buckley, Kearney, Mo. at 85 kg
• Cohlton Schultz, Denver, Colo. at 100 kg
Four of the U.S. wrestlers also won gold medals in the Greco-Roman tournament to become double champions for the Pan American Championships: Schwartz, Gomez, LaMont and Schultz.
Austin Gomez was named Outstanding Wrestler in the men’s freestyle division and received the Golden Boot award. In freestyle, he had two pins and two technical fall wins. It was his second Pan Am Cadet Golden Boot, after also winning the award in the Greco-Roman tournament.
Silver medals went to Drew Mattin of Delta, Ohio at 50 kg, Kanen Storr of Mason, Mich. at 63 kg and Quentin Hovis of Chandler, Ariz. at 69 kg.

Over the three days of competition, which featured all three Olympic styles, the United States won 28 total medals, including 15 individual gold medals.
UWW Cadets are 15-17 years old. Coaching the men’s teams (both freestyle and Greco-Roman) were Travis Paulson and Jason Christenson. The Team Leader was Craig LaMont.
