Roberts wins gold, Manville a bronze at Austria Junior Greco-Roman Open

GOTZIS, Austria – The United States had two medalists and placed second in the team race at the Austria Junior Open in Greco-Roman wrestling on Saturday.
Claiming a gold medal at 50 kg/110 lbs. was Dalton Roberts, who went 2-0 in a three-athlete round robin. He opened with a win over Rinat Baltashev of Kazakhstan, 5-3, then clinched his gold with an 11-1 technical fall over Filippo Biondi of Italy, 11-1.
Claiming a bronze medal at 74 kg/163 lbs. was 2014 Youth Olympic Games silver medalist Mason Manville, who had an impressive 6-1 record for the day. He opened with five straight wins, including four technical fall wins. In his final pool match, he was defeated by Tamerlan Shadukayev of Kazakhstan, 0-8. In the bronze-medal round, Manville stopped Giacomo Giuffrida of Italy, 2-0.
The USA brought 13 athletes, entering two teams of wrestlers. All 13 wrestlers placed in the top 10 of their weight classes. Three Americans placed fourth and four placed fifth in their weight.
Team USA I placed second in the team standings with 52 points, behind champion Kazakhstan with 68 points. Team USA II was seventh. There were 16 national teams entered in the tournament.
