Kalil, Asper win Greco-Roman bronze medals at S.A. Lavrikov Championships in Russia

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – A pair of American wrestlers claimed bronze medals at the at S.A. Lavrikov Greco-Roman Championships, Aaron Kalil (Camp LeJeune, N.C/U.S. Marine Corps) at 59 kg/130 lbs. and Josh Asper (College Park, Md./Navy - Marine Corps RTC) at 85 kg/187 lbs.
Both finished with 2-1 records, competing against athletes from across Russia.
Kalil defeated Madet Rashat of St. Petersburg, Russia in his bronze-medal bout by technical fall, 8-0.
Asper stopped Russian Dmitry Nimebaev in the bronze-medal round, 10-6
Kalil was fifth in the 2014 CISM Military World Championships.
Both were Div. I wrestlers, Kalil at the U.S. Naval Academy and Asper at the University of Maryland. Asper was sixth at the 2012 NCAA Div. I Championships.
The U.S. athletes were coached in the tournament by past U.S. Olympic coach Jay Antonelli.
