Adeline Gray & Helen Maroulis ranked No. 1 in UWW August World women’s rankings

Helen Maroulis, shown at the 2015 World Team Trials, has moved up to No. 1 in the world at 55 kg heading into the World Championships next month.
United World Wrestling released its newest women’s freestyle World rankings for August.
For the first time this year, two American women’s freestyle wrestlers are ranked No. 1 in the World at their weight classes.
Two-time World champion and four-time World medalist Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) retained her No. 1 spot at 75 kg, a position she has held throughout the season. Gray won a gold medal at the Pan American Games in July.
Moving up to No. 1, after sitting at No. 2 for a few months, is two-time World medalist Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md./Sunkist Kids) at 55 kg. As UWW noted in its announcement, Maroulis has won six events this year, most recently at the Grand Prix of Spain.
Overall, there are eight American wrestlers in this month’s rankings among the top 20 in their weight classes.
A third U.S. women’s wrestler is in the top 10 of her weight, 2012 World champion and four-time World medalist Elena Pirozhkova (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC), who dropped two spots to No. 8 at 69 kg. Pirozhkova placed third in the Grand Prix of Spain in July.
Five other U.S. women were ranked in the bottom 10 spots of the rankings for July.
Returning to the rankings this month is 2015 World Team member Whitney Conder (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP), who is No. 11 at 53 kg. Conder won a gold medal at the Pan American Games.
Two other 2015 U.S. World Team members are in the rankings, Alyssa Lampe (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids), who is No. 13 at 48 kg and Erin Clodgo (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids), now at No. 18 at 63 kg. Both were bronze medalists at the Pan American Games.
Two other Americans are in the rankings, Jennifer Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC), who sits at No. 12 at 60 kg and Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, Calif. (Titan Mercury WC), who is ranked No. 15 at 48 kg. Page moved up four spots in the rankings, while Anthony remains at the same rank as last month.
One U.S. wrestler who was ranked in July did not appear in the August rankings, Sarah Hildebrandt (Granger, Ind./New York AC) at 55 kg
