King tops WCWA Women’s College preseason rankings, as five national champions return

Defending WCWA national team champions King University tops the preseason rankings for the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association, the organization which manages college varsity wrestling in the United States.


King is followed by No. 2 Oklahoma City University, No. 3 Lindenwood University, No. 4 Campbellsville University and No. 5Wayland Baptist Universiity in the preseason rankings.


There are five No. 1 ranked wrestlers who are past WCWA national champions, led by three-time WCWA national champion Emily Webster of Oklahoma City at 101 pounds. Webster will attempt to become only the third four-time WCWA national champion, joining Simon Fraser greats Victoria Anthony and Helen Maroulis to reach this lofty honor.


Other returning WCWA champions who are top ranked include Haley Augello of King (116), Sarah Hildebrandt of King (123), Tamyra Mensah of Wayland Baptist (143) and Julia Salata of King (155).


The women’s college season has already begun, with the early season tournaments and dual meets beginning in October.


The 2015 WCWA Women’s College Nationals is set for Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Mo. on February 13.
