REMINDER: U.S. World Team Trials in men’s and women's freestyle to air on Universal Sports Network Tonight!

USA Wrestling and the Universal Sports Network will partner to broadcast the U.S. World Team Trials in men’s and women’s freestyle on Monday, June 9, starting at 6:00 p.m. ET
It will be a two-hour show, with championship finals series coverage in the Olympic weight classes in both men’s freestyle and women’s freestyle. The World Team Trials is the qualifying event for the U.S. team which will compete at the 2014 World Wrestling Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in September.
The broadcast crew for the World Team Trials coverage will include play-by-play announcer Van Stokes, color commentator and Olympian Jake Herbert and respected sideline reporter Shane Sparks.
The U.S. World Team Trials will be held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis., May 31 – June 1. A total of 12 Olympic weight classes, six in men’s freestyle and six in men’s Greco-Roman, will be contested. The championship finals will be a best-of-three series between the U.S. Open champion and the winner of the World Team Trials Tournament, which is held prior to finals series.
Among the athletes expected to compete are Olympic champions Jordan Burroughs and Jake Varner in men’s freestyle and Olympic bronze medalists Clarissa Chun and Randi Miller will be in the women’s draw. Burroughs is also a two-time World champion, while Varner is also a past World bronze medalist. Chun was also a 2008 World champion.
Also expected are World champions Elena Pirozhkova, Adeline Gray and Iris Smith in women’s freestyle. Pirozhkova and Gray are both three-time World medalists. Among the other past World medalists in the field are two-time World bronze medalist Alyssa Lampe in women’s freestyle and World bronze medalist Tervel Dlagnev in men’s freestyle.
This is part of a series of wrestling broadcasts on Universal Sports Network, which is partnering on USA Wrestling’s first multi-event national television deal.
Two major USA Wrestling events have already been aired, the Freestyle World Cup, held in Los Angeles in March and the Senior Open in Las Vegas in April. For the first time, the ASICS/Las Vegas Senior Wrestling Open were broadcast LIVE on primetime national television for both the semifinal and finals rounds.
Another major event, the U.S. Greco-Roman World Team Trials in Daytona Beach, Fla. will also be broadcast on a in June. The expected air date of a one-hour show from the U.S. Greco-Roman World Team Trials on Universal Sports Network is Monday, June 23 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
