National Wrestling Hall of Fame Honors Weekend underway in Stillwater, Okla., June 20-21

The National Wrestling Hall of Fame will host its 38th Honors Weekend in Stillwater, Okla. this weekend. Included in the weekend are the following activities:
• Social and Presentation of Plaques on Friday, June 20, at 6:00 p.m. at National Wrestling Hall of Fame
• Golf Tournament luncheon on Saturday, June 21, 12:00 noon, Stillwater Golf and Country Club
• 38th Honors Banquet and induction ceremony on Saturday, June 21, 7:00 p.m., OSU Student Union Ballroom
Four wrestling legends will be inducted as Distinguished Members of the Class of 2014. They include Eric Guerrero, Dean Lahr, Mickey Martin and Kerry McCoy.
Eric Guerrero and Kerry McCoy both represented the United States as Olympic freestyle wrestlers. Guerrero was a three-time NCAA champion and four-time All-American for Oklahoma State. He also won four U.S. Open titles and a World Cup title in 2003 and wrestled in the 2004 Olympics. McCoy won two NCAA titles for Penn State and went on to win a 2003 World silver medal and was a two-time Olympian (2000 and 2004). Dean Lahr was a two-time NCAA champion for the University of Colorado and became the only NCAA Outstanding Wrestler in school history. He was successful internationally, competing on two World teams. Mickey Martin was a two-time NCAA champion and 1964 Outstanding Wrestler for the University of Oklahoma. After his collegiate career, he turned his focus to coaching for more than 25 years.

Kerry McCoy Hall of Fame biography
Two wrestlers will be inducted as Outstanding Americans, recognizing their great achievements off the mat, Jim Jordan and Colin Kilrain. Jordan won two NCAA titles for the University of Wisconsin and has gone into politics, first serving in the Ohio Senate and now serving as a U.S. Congressman. Kilrain, a three-time All-American at Lehigh, served as a Navy SEAL and is currently a Rear Admiral for the Navy.

Medal of Courage winner Tom Norris, was an ACC champion for the University of Maryland in 1965 and 1966. A recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Norris led a five-man patrol through enemy territory to save two downed pilots.

Order of Merit winner Tim Johnson has been “the voice” of college wrestling for the past 28 years. He has broadcast more than 300 collegiate wrestling events, including the last 11 NCAA championships. He was a key USA Wrestling employee in the early 1980s. He also launched the sport-specific national ministry of FCA Wrestling.

Lifetime Achievement for Officials winner Jerry Kuntz is one of the finest officials in the US and has officiated 98 national tournaments. He has also officiated seven World Team Trials and two Olympic Trials. He has done 15 Oklahoma high school state meets. He coached Oklahoma high school wrestling for Clinton, Putnam City and Casady for more than 20 years.

Dave Schultz High School Excellence recipient Chance Marsteller was an undefeated four-time Pennsylvania state champion, three-time Outstanding Wrestler at the state tournament, FILA Cadet Freestyle and Greco-Roman champion, FILA Cadet World team member, two-time Super 32 champ and four-time Powerade champion, with academic and community service achievements. He signed with Oklahoma State.

Tricia Saunders High School Excellence recipient Marina Doi was a two-time California Interscholastic Federation state champion, a three-time FILA Cadet World medalist, four-time USA Wrestling Triple Crown winner, three-time FILA Cadet Pan-American champion with academic and community service achievements. She will attend King University in the fall.
