Anthony, Maroulis, Pirozhkova win golds at Cerro Pelado International in Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba – All three U.S. women freestyle wrestlers in action on Thursday at the Cerro Pelado International in Cuba claimed individual gold medals.
Capturing titles were Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, Calif./Sunkist Kids) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md./Sunkist Kids) at 55 kg/121.5 lbs. and Elena Pirozhkova (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC) at 69 kg/152 lbs. All three were teammates on the 2013 U.S. World Team.
Anthony, who was fifth in the 2013 World Championships, won all three of her matches by technical fall.
Maroulis, a 2012 World silver medalist, won her only match against a Cuban opponent by technical fall.
Pirozhkova, a 2012 World champion and three-time World medalist, finished with a 3-0 record, including two technical falls. Pirozhkova was also a 2012 Olympian.
No other U.S. women’s freestyle wrestlers are entered in this competition.
