UPDATE: Horton wins Greco-Roman bronze at Veterans Worlds in Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia – Stephen Horton of St. Louis, Mo. won a bronze medal at 69 kg in Div. C in Greco-Roman at the Veterans World Championships on Saturday.


Horton went 2-1 in the competition, scoring a 53 second pin over Milos Trbulin of Slovenia in the bronze-medal match. Horton opened with a pin over Evgeny Didenko of Russia, then was edged in the semifinals by eventual champion Domenico Piccinini of Italy, 1-5.


It was Horton’s second medal of the week, after also winning a bronze medal in freestyle on Wednesday.


Qualifying for a medal match at 85 kg in Div. C was Kevin Pine of Las Vegas, Nev., who finished fifth with a 1-2 record. He was defeated in his bronze-medal bout by Alexander Sergeev of Russia, 1-8.


Also competing on Saturday was Victor Aybar of Manchester, Md., who did not reach the medal round at 58 kg in Div. C.


Updated results, including names of opponents and list of champions, will be posted when available.


Over the first five days of action, the USA won 22 total medals at the Veterans Worlds, including six golds, six silvers and 10 bronzes.


The Greco-Roman competition concludes on Sunday with competition in Div. A and Div. G.
