The NMU-OTS Greco-Roman Team poses together after each member won a medal at the Eduardo Campbell Cup on Saturday.
PANAMA CITY, Panama – Two-time Junior World Team member Dalton Roberts (Fowlerville, Mich.) won a gold medal at 59 kg/130 lbs., and all five members of the Northern Michigan Olympic Training Site (NMU-OTS) Greco-Roman wrestling team won a medal at the Eduardo Campbell International Cup in Panama City, Panama on Saturday.
Roberts, a member of both the Junior World and University World Teams in 2016, won a medal at this event for the second straight year, after coming home with a bronze medal at the Eduardo Campbell Cup in 2015.
Winning silver medals for NMU-OTS were Corey Fitzgerald (Green, Ohio) at 75 kg/165 lbs. and Zackery Bickford (Tacoma, Wash.) at 80 kg/176 lbs.
Bronze medals went to Andrew Ibarra (Santa Maria, Calif.) at 59 kg/130 lbs. and David Prado (Humble, Texas) at 75 kg/165 lbs.
Traditionally, the NMU-OTS sends a team to this event as the first competition of the new academic year. In past years, the Northern Michigan team brought home a team award, but with only five entries this year, they did not get on the podium as a group.
“The team did great, with everyone placing third or higher. Although we were strong as a team, we didn't medal as a team because other teams had many more people,” said Dalton.
Updated results, including medalists and match scores, will be posted when available.
