Manu wins silver, Perrelli takes bronze on final day at Henri Deglane Challenge in France

NICE, France – On the final day at the Henri Deglane Challenge, the U.S. earned won a pair of medals, a silver medal from Josh Manu (North Providence, R.I./Navy-Marine Corps Mat Club) at 97 kg/213 lbs. and a bronze medal from Frank Perrelli (Charlottesville, Va./TMWC) at 57 kg/125.5 lbs.
Manu advanced in the semifinals by forfeit, and was beaten in the finals by 2015 European U23 champion Aliaksandr Hushtyn of Belarus by fall.
Perrelli lost a close 6-4 decision in the quarterfinals to Dzimchyk Rynchynau of Belarus, who was third in the 2013 European Junior Championships. After being pulled back into repechage, Perrelli scored a 9-7 win over Darkhan Beisenov of Kazakhstan, who was 11th in the 2016 Asian Championships.
Both Perrelli and Manu recently finished in fourth place at the Bill Farrell International held earlier this month. Perrelli was an All-American for Cornell in college, while Manu was a two-time NAIA All-American and a national finalist for Missouri Valley College.
The USA had three entries in the Henri Deglane Challenge, and all three won medals. Joining Manu and Perrelli as a silver medalist on Friday was Josh Asper (Annapolis, Md./New York AC) at 86 kg/189 lbs. Asper was a star in college at Maryland.
