The wrestling federation of India has provided its lineup for the 2016 Men’s Freestyle Wrestling World Cup at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., June 11-12.

The India team is led by 2013 World silver medalist Amit Kumar at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. He boasts a 2013 Asian Championships gold medal, and was 10th at the 2012 Olympics.

Just missing a medal at the 2015 World Championships was Bajrang, who was fifth at 61 kg/134 lbs. He was also second at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Competing for India at 65 kg/143 lbs. is Amit Kumar Dhankhar, who was a 2013 Asian champion.

India competes in the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Championships, one of the largest wrestling competitions in the world based upon number of nations. Pawan Kumar won a pair of Commonwealth Championships in 2011 and 2013.

Also winning Commonwealth Championships were Parveen Rana at 74 kg/163 lbs. in 2013 and Saywart Kadian at 97 kg/213 lbs. in 2013. American fans may remember Rana for winning the Dave Schultz Memorial International at the Olympic Training Center in 2014. Kadian was third in the 2014 Asian Games.

India placed 10th at the 2015 World Championships, which were held in Las Vegas, Nev. Their last appearance in the World Cup was in 2014.

The eight nations which will compete for the World Cup are (alphabetically) Azerbaijan, Georgia, India, Iran, Mongolia, Russia, Turkey and the United States. Nations were invited based upon final team standings at the 2015 World Championships.

India has drawn into Group B, where it will face the United States, Iran and Azerbaijan.

The 2014 and 2015 Freestyle World Cup were also held in Los Angeles. The United States was second at the 2015 World Cup and third at the 2014 World Cup.
