The wrestling federation of Azerbaijan has provided its lineup for the 2016 Men’s Freestyle Wrestling World Cup at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., June 11-12.

The World Cup is the annual international dual meet championships, and will feature the top eight men’s freestyle wrestling teams in the world.

The Azerbaijan team will be led by 2011 World bronze medalist Ashraf Aliev at 74 kg/163 lbs. He was also eighth in the 2012 Olympic Games.

The team includes European champions, Makmud Magomedov and Giorgi Edisherashvili, both who compete at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. Magomedov was a 2010 European champion, while Edisherashvili won his European title in 2013.

The team also features a pair of past Junior World champions, 2015 Junior World champion Said Gamidov at 125 kg/275 lbs. and 2013 Junior World Champion Akhmednabi Gvarzatilov at 61 kg/134 lbs. Winning three Junior World medals in his career is Aslanbek Alborov at 97 kg/213 lbs., who was a Junior World silver medalist in 2009 and 2010 and a Junior World bronze medalist in 2011. 2013 Junior World bronze medalist Gadzhimurad Omarov will wrestle at 70 kg/154 lbs.

Each year, Azerbaijan hosts the highly respected UWW Golden Grand Prix Finals. Winning this event twice was Aleksander Gostiev at 86 kg/189 lbs. who claimed golds in 2010 and 2015 at this event. Other past UWW Golden Grand Prix Finals champions include Magomedov and Gvarzatilov.

Azerbaijan placed fifth at the 2015 World Championships, which were held in Las Vegas, Nev. Azerbaijan was also third at the 2015 World Cup held in Los Angeles.

The eight nations which will compete for the World Cup are (alphabetically) Azerbaijan, Georgia, India, Iran, Mongolia, Russia, Turkey and the United States. Nations were invited based upon final team standings at the 2015 World Championships.

Azerbaijan has drawn into Group A, where it will face the United States, Iran and India.

The 2014 and 2015 Freestyle World Cup were also held in Los Angeles, with Iran winning the team title both years. The United States was second at the 2015 World Cup and third at the 2014 World Cup. The USA team will feature all six 2016 Olympic team members in freestyle wrestling.

Attendees can purchase tickets for the popular international competition through Ticketmaster.
