All six members of the U.S. Olympic team in men’s freestyle and two other Americans appeared in UWW’s most recent rankings, which were released today as a pre-Olympic ranking.
Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids/Nebraska RTC), a 2012 Olympic champ and three-time World champion, continues to enjoy the No. 1 spot at 74 kg/163 lbs. as he seeks his second Olympic gold medal. His most recent action was at the German Grand Prix in July, where he claimed the top prize.
Kyle Snyder checks in at No. 4 at 97 kg/213 lbs., one spot lower than the previous rankings. The 2015 World gold medalist earned a spot on the podium at the German Grand Prix, finishing with bronze. He also competed at the World Cup in June, where he was undefeated.
Breakout star J’den Cox (Columbia, Mo./Missouri Wrestling Foundation) moved up to No. 9 at 86 kg/189 lbs. Cox is fresh off a third-place finish in Germany and won three of his four matches at the World Cup.
Jumping up five spots to No. 13 is Frank Molinaro (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC), who will represent the U.S. at 65 kg/143 lbs. in Rio. He secured a silver medal at the German Grand Prix, shortly after a stellar performance at the World Cup in Los Angeles, where he went 4-0.
Sitting at No. 14 at 125 kg/275 lbs. is two-time Olympian and two-time World bronze medalist Tervel Dlagnev (Columbus, Ohio/Sunkist Kids/Ohio RTC). The 2016 Olympian did not compete in July.
Rounding out the Olympic team and making his debut in the UWW rankings is Daniel Dennis (Iowa City, Iowa/Titan Mercury WC), who is tabbed the No. 15 wrestler at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. Dennis broke into the rankings after a gold-medal performance at the German Grand Prix in early July.
Two wrestlers at non-Olympic weights join the Olympic team in the rankings.
